The following list was developed to help you plan your move to Israel. These are suggestions -things you may want to organize and prepare before your actual relocation to Israel.

Prepare a file containing all of your important contacts. Include: names, addresses, and phone numbers.

Prepare a file with all insurance policy numbers, credit card numbers, and bank account numbers.

Secure original (official) copies of birth certificates, college degree(s), transcripts, marriage certificates/licenses, etc.

Introduce yourself to some Hebrew (Israeli Phrase Book: The Lonely Planet).

Complete and file a Will. Carry one copy with you and leave one in a safe deposit box or with a lawyer.

Have a Power of Attorney in your home country to expedite transactions.

Ensure that your present health insurance will overlap your new policy to provide continuous coverage.

When you receive your flight itinerary, make sure that you have checked the baggage allowances, the amount of carry-on baggage allowed, the departure times.

Be certain that you can check your baggage from your point of departure through to Israel.

If you are bringing a pet, check requirements for travel, arrival and entry into Israel.

Check the suggested time of arrival to the airport before your flight.

Keep in mind that plane security is very rigid, especially flights to Israel.

Make arrangements for all of your important insurance policies and bills to paid during your move and until you are settled and available to take care of these yourself. Inform insurance companies of your change of address.

Bring sufficient cash to operate while in transition ($500.00-$800.00 per person or family member), as well as a valid internationally accepted credit card. Transition requires considerable resources, depending on your lifestyle.

Bring a current driver’s license. You will need this license to obtain an Israeli driver’s license. By law, you can only use a non-Israeli driver’s license for no more than one year from your arrival date. If you do not obtain an Israeli driver’s license before the end of that year, you cannot drive. After the one year mark, you will need to take a course and pass a test in order to obtain an Israeli license.

If you wear contact lenses, bring a year’s supply of fluids, disposable lenses etc. They are available here, but very expensive. You might consider bringing an extra pair of eyeglasses if you wear them on a regular basis.
